Protest Camp Outside Union Buildings Demands Justice for AbaThembu King

The civic movement Soil of Africa has set up a protest camp outside the Union Buildings in Pretoria, demanding government action regarding traditional leadership issues and the alleged mistreatment of AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo.

The demonstrators, who have been camped for 11 days, are calling for recognition and justice, highlighting ongoing tensions between traditional leaders and the government. Among their key demands are:

  1. The placement of the Engcobo Municipality under national administration.

  2. A forensic audit into alleged corruption within the municipality.

  3. The dismissal of Municipal Manager accused of being at the center of financial misconduct.

The Protest leader stated that despite attempts to engage with President Cyril Ramaphosa, they have been barred from entering the Union Buildings due to security protocols. The group vows to remain until the presidency commits to sending a delegation to address their grievances in the Eastern Cape.

King Dalindyebo is expected to join the protest later today, as supporters continue their vigil despite shortages of food and water. Soil of Africa has pledged assistance to sustain the demonstrators.

The protest underscores deepening frustrations over governance and traditional leadership disputes, with no immediate resolution in sight.

Updates to follow as the situation develops.
