The Virginia Regional Court has sentenced 27-year-old Kamohelo Motsumi to 18 years in prison for the rape of a 14-year-old boy in a case dating back to November 2021.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 14 November 2021, at approximately 14:00, when Motsumi took the minor to a farm in Virginia. Upon arrival, he ordered the victim to undress and lie on his stomach before raping him. The traumatized boy later reported the assault to his grandmother, prompting her to file a rape case at the Virginia South African Police Service (SAPS).
The investigation was handled by Warrant Officer Thabiso Twala of the Thabong Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, who has since retired. Through meticulous police work and collaboration with Senior Public Prosecutor Marelize Nel of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the state secured a conviction.
On Monday, 28 July 2025, Magistrate S.D. Mgudlwa handed down the 18-year prison sentence. The court also ruled that Motsumi’s name be added to the National Register for Sexual Offenders and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
