The Director of Muscle Mecca Shop in Secunda, Rianne Janse van Rensburg (32), was released on R5,000 bail today after appearing in the Evander District Court alongside his two employees. The trio faces charges related to the illegal sale of controlled medicine without a valid license.
Van Rensburg’s employees, Paul Stephen Corbitt and Marco Rodolph Meintjies, were initially arrested by the Hawks Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit on 11 September 2024. The arrests followed a court-authorized search warrant, which revealed that the shop was selling pharmaceutical products requiring prescriptions over the counter—a direct violation of the Medicines and Related Substances Act.
At the time of the search, Van Rensburg was not present at the shop. His two employees, who were found on the premises, failed to produce a valid permit for the sale of the controlled substances. They were subsequently arrested and appeared in court, where they were each granted R5,000 bail. The case was postponed to today, 17 July 2025, for further proceedings.
During today’s court appearance, Van Rensburg joined his employees after being arrested earlier in the morning. The court granted him the same bail amount of R5,000. All three accused were warned to reappear before the Evander District Court on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, for the continuation of the case.
