The Kakamas Regional Court has convicted 29-year-old Johannes Gabaya for the murder of Bolokang Matlhole (24), delivering a sentence of 25 years’ direct imprisonment.
The tragic incident occurred on 10 December 2023, when Gabaya visited Matlhole at his residence, where the deceased was with his girlfriend. An argument broke out between the two men, escalating violently when Matlhole struck Gabaya on the head with a mug, leaving Gabaya bleeding in the room at the time.
After leaving briefly, Gabaya returned, prompting Matlhole to flee upon seeing him. Gabaya chased after him, caught up with him, and proceeded to stab Matlhole multiple times in the back. Both men were transported to the hospital, where Matlhole later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, a case was registered, leading to Gabaya’s arrest. After a thorough judicial process, the court found Gabaya guilty of murder and handed down a 25-year prison sentence.
