The newly sworn-in New Zealand government intends not to be pushed around by UN resolutions or by the World Health Organisation anymore. According to a coalition agreement with New Zealand First, the new government will undertake a โ€œNational Interest Testโ€ before accepting any agreements from the United Nations or the World Health Organisationโ€™s proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations.

To this aim, the New Zealand Cabinet must โ€œreserve againstโ€ proposed amendments to International Health Regulations by 1 December 2023.
