Eastern Cape. -AO Johannes Gerber and AO Lawrence Plaatjies, attached to the Unit for Livestock theft and Endangered Species at Graaff-Reinet, were each released on R500 for the alleged theft and possession of state property yesterday. The case, which was heard in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate’s Court, was postponed to February 23.
AO Majola Nkohli says the two police officers were arrested after a week-long investigation by a team of detectives from the provincial counter-corruption unit.
The two accused’s private homes were searched with the necessary warrants at about 6am on Thursday and state property worth more than R1 million was allegedly recovered.
The goods recovered include brand new tires, a freezer, fridge and diesel generators.
