Nat QuinnKeymasterNew information in dog attack case-Groblersdal
The father and stepson appear again today in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court where their bail hearing resumed, after three weeks of detention.
Public Prosecutor Faith Raselomane said that they are still opposing bail and that there is new information.
Advocate Johan van Wyk opposed the request because the defense is unaware of new information.Magistrate Bogi Mashele asked advocate Van Wyk how he could oppose new information if he did not know what the new information was, to which adv. Van Wyk replied that the defense was caught off guard and requested copies of it for their own review.
The court decided to adjourn until 11:00 so that all evidence or new information can be handed over to the defence.
The Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court is packed with politicians and national media.
Groenewald and Greeff are facing charges of assault with intent after they were accused of the dog attack on Veneruru Kavari, a former guard who was reportedly fired because he was drunk on duty. They were further accused of hitting Kavari over the head with an ax handle and injecting him with an unknown liquid.
Groenewald and Greeff say that Kavari arrived at their offices on the farm, and that he was armed with a panga and a pickaxe, which he threw at Groenewald.
The pike handle apparently hit the dog, and it then broke free.It was alleged that Greeff, who is a trained paramedic, gave Kavari a tetanus injection after the dog bit him.
