    1986: Adriaan Vlok refused in Parliament in February 1987 to disclose the number or nature of incidents of sabotage, armed attacks and explosions that occurred during 1986 as they were not in the interests of the security of the Republic. According to the Institute for Strategic Studies at the University of Pretoria, there were 230 incidents of insurgency during the year, an increase of 69,1% from the 136 incidents in 1985.
