Mpumalanga. -A farm foreman of Makubalan plantations, about 25 km from Lydenburg, was wounded by alleged farm attackers on Sunday night.
Hendrik Hattingh of Heritage Potection Group says in a social media class they received an emergency call from a farm attack at about 8pm.
The farm owner was called by his workers and said the foreman, who returned from vacation, was shot. He was apparently awaited by four suspects at his home and a shooting broke out. The foreman, who was armed, shot back but was still hit in the calf and lower leg. Hattingh says he hit one of the suspects according to the foreman, but all the suspects managed to flee from the scene.
The farm’s security company was contacted to help stabilize the foreman and transport them to Lydenburg, where an ambulance awaited them along the road and the wounded man was further helping. The foreman was transferred from Lydenburg to Mediclinic in Nelspruit.
At the scene, which was secured, 9 mm caps were found, after which the scene was handed over to the police and local criminal record center (PKRS) at 23:00. A blood trail was followed to the plantation. A tracking dog also followed the track.
Police are investigating the case.
