GAUTENG — A Thembisa murder suspect connected to the tragic killing of 23-year-old Boitumelo Gift Mashita has been discovered dead inside his vehicle in Midrand. The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the development, marking a sudden end to the active manhunt for the primary person of interest in the case.
According to statements released by the South African Police Service (SAPS), the investigating team had officially linked the deceased man—identified as Mashita’s estranged husband—to her murder. Following this breakthrough, the SAPS Tembisa Tracking Team was actively tracing his whereabouts. The search concluded abruptly on Monday when the Midrand Police notified the tracking unit that the suspect’s vehicle had been located within their policing precinct, with his body inside.
Addressing the circumstances surrounding his death, SAPS spokespersons indicated that foul play is not currently suspected. “It is believed that he may have ingested an unknown substance,” the police noted in an official statement. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled to establish the exact medical cause of death.
The investigation into the suspect’s death follows the brutal murder of Mashita. The 23-year-old woman was reportedly commuting to work when she was fatally shot in an alleged robbery in Thembisa, during which her personal belongings were stolen by the perpetrators.
