FREE STATE — The South African Police Service (SAPS) successfully recovered suspected stolen livestock valued at R75,000 following a swift early-morning intervention by the Selosesha Rural Safety team in the Mothusi Trust area.
On Thursday night, 24 September 2026, a three-member Selosesha Rural Safety team was conducting routine patrols around local farming communities. In the early hours of Friday, 25 September 2026, at approximately 00:36, the unit was activated to respond to reports of suspected stock theft at Mothusi Trust.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the responding officers revealed that an unidentified male allegedly unlocked a kraal and stole 30 Merino sheep and six lambs. Acting immediately on this intelligence, the police team tracked the missing animals and discovered all 36 head of livestock hidden under trees on the outskirts of Mothusi Trust. The alleged suspects fled the scene upon spotting the police vehicles, and no arrests were made at the time of recovery.
The owner of the stock expressed profound gratitude to the Selosesha Rural Safety team for the safe and prompt return of her livestock.
