NORTHERN CAPE – A 27-year-old woman was arrested in Augrabies for alleged drug possession after South African Police Service (SAPS) officers discovered dagga and tik concealed inside a child’s diaper.
The arrest, which occurred on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, was the direct result of swift information sharing and effective collaboration between the Riemvasmaak SAPS and Augrabies SAPS.
According to SAPS officials, members at the Riemvasmaak police station received intelligence indicating that a woman from Vredesvallei was traveling to Augrabies to purchase illicit substances. The suspect was reportedly accompanied by a child at the time.
This critical information was immediately relayed to the Augrabies SAPS, prompting a joint operational response. Police members successfully intercepted the suspect in Augrabies as she was preparing to board a taxi.
Upon stopping the individual, officers conducted a search of a diaper bag in her possession. During the search, police discovered dagga and tik hidden inside a diaper, with an estimated street value of R1,800.
Following the discovery, the woman was formally arrested and detained by the Augrabies SAPS. Police spokespersons confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear in the Augrabies Magistrates’ Court in the near future to face formal charges related to the possession of drugs.
