ALEXANDRA – An unlicensed firearm arrest in Alexandra has led to the detention of a 46-year-old man, following an intelligence-driven operation executed by the Johannesburg District police on 24 August 2026.
According to official police information, the operation was initiated after authorities received a tip-off regarding a suspicious individual allegedly in possession of a firearm at a local shopping mall. Responding to the intelligence, police members proceeded to the location, successfully identified the suspect, and conducted a search.
During the search, authorities recovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol with its serial numbers deliberately filed off, 11 live rounds of ammunition, and one knife.
The seized firearm and ammunition have been taken into police custody and will undergo further investigation, including comprehensive ballistic testing.
The Johannesburg District police confirmed that the suspect is scheduled to appear before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on 26 August 2026. Official investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
