NORTH WEST — A Klerksdorp child predator has been sentenced to 18 years in prison following his conviction for the sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl in Jouberton. The substantial sentence marks the conclusion of a high-profile case that was brought to light after the young victim bravely came forward to disclose the abuse to authorities.
The harrowing incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, 8 February 2024, at approximately 18:30. Following the child’s report, police quickly identified 49-year-old Sipho Mazatsana as the suspect. Law enforcement apprehended Mazatsana just days later on Saturday, 11 February 2024. Due to the severe nature of the allegations and the vulnerability of the minor involved, the court denied him bail, and he remained in police custody pending the duration of his trial.
The complex case was spearheaded by Sergeant Martha Meisie Chosi of the Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Her meticulous gathering of evidence and case preparation ultimately paved the way for a successful prosecution. On Tuesday, 11 August 2026, the Klerksdorp Regional Court officially found the 49-year-old guilty, resulting in the strict 18-year imprisonment sentence.
Following the verdict, North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Adams released a statement welcoming the lengthy sentence. Lieutenant General Adams specifically commended Sergeant Chosi for her thorough and diligent investigative work, noting that her unwavering dedication was instrumental in securing the conviction and removing a dangerous offender from the streets.
