GAUTENG — A known gangster who was out on bail has been arrested in connection with the murders of two South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit officers and two civilian women in Reiger Park, authorities confirmed after a sweeping multi-disciplinary operation yielded a breakthrough on Sunday, 9 August 2026.
The suspect, described by police as a repeat offender with several outstanding cases before the courts—including two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm—was taken in for questioning after investigators tracked him to the KwaDukathole Informal Settlement in Germiston. Two R5 rifles belonging to the SAPS were recovered during the operation.
The slain officers have been identified as Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko, both members of the Gauteng SAPS Anti-Gang Unit. Two female community members were also killed in the attack.
Multi-Agency Task Force Tracked Suspects Through the Weekend
The arrest followed an intensive tracing operation conducted throughout the weekend by a joint task force comprising the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (DPCI) Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, PRASA, Gauteng Crime Intelligence Tactical and Special Operations, the Provincial Tracking Team, the Tactical Response Team, and the Anti-Gang Unit.
Acting National Head of the DPCI, Lieutenant General Sphesihle Nkosi, conveyed his condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the slain officers. He stated that the arrest and the recovery of the R5 rifles demonstrate that the SAPS will “relentlessly pursue those who target police officers and communities.”
Investigation Ongoing; Further Arrests Not Ruled Out
Lieutenant General Nkosi emphasised that the SAPS and the DPCI remain committed to dismantling criminal networks, removing illegal firearms from communities, and ensuring that those who attack police officers are brought to justice.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation into the Reiger Park killings remains active and that the possibility of additional arrests has not been ruled out. Police continue to pursue all individuals believed to be involved in the murders of Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko and the two civilian women.
