FREE STATE — A swift Phahameng murder arrest has brought a 29-year-old suspect into custody following the horrific rape and killing of a seven-year-old girl. The breakthrough in this Free State case occurred after the minor’s lifeless body was found concealed beneath a bed inside a local shack, sparking an immediate and intensive police manhunt.
The grim sequence of events unfolded on Sunday, 9 August 2026. According to police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle, the victim’s 14-year-old sister made the initial, traumatizing discovery. The older sibling spotted a hand reaching out from under a bed in the backyard structure and rushed to the main house to inform her father. The family subsequently contacted authorities, bringing law enforcement to the residential property.
Upon entering the informal dwelling, officers encountered a devastating scene. Captain Earle detailed that the young girl was found completely motionless with her pants pulled down and visible injuries to her neck. Emergency medical services personnel were rapidly dispatched to the location, but tragically, the child was already beyond resuscitation and was pronounced deceased on-site.
Investigators wasted no time in launching preliminary inquiries to track down the perpetrator. Utilizing rapid groundwork and local intelligence, detectives traced the fleeing 29-year-old male to an adjacent agricultural property. He was successfully apprehended at the nearby farm without further incident and taken into custody to face severe criminal charges.
The judicial process is already underway for the accused. He is slated to answer for the alleged sexual assault and homicide during a scheduled hearing at the Bultfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
