GAUTENG — A major Alberton firearms arrest has resulted in three men facing multiple charges following a dramatic foot pursuit and a subsequent residential search. The swift operation unfolded on Wednesday, 05 August 2026, when SAPS Alberton Crime Prevention members were dispatched to a local filling station to track down the suspects.
According to a SAPS Alberton spokesperson, the investigation began when a complainant identified the three men at the filling station, pointing them out as the individuals who had allegedly robbed him the previous day. As law enforcement officers approached the group, the suspects attempted to flee on foot. Police quickly managed to apprehend two of the men, while the third suspect initially managed to run away from the immediate scene.
Upon searching the two detained suspects, authorities discovered two unlicensed firearms—a 9mm Norinco and a .38 revolver—along with 126 rounds of live ammunition.
Further investigation led the two suspects to direct police to their place of residence. It was at this location that the third suspect, who had fled the filling station earlier, was finally tracked down. The SAPS Alberton spokesperson noted that upon his discovery, the third individual was found in possession of a toy gun.
A comprehensive search of the residence uncovered additional incriminating evidence. Officers recovered various clothing items that are strongly suspected to be stolen property. These items have been directly linked to a previously reported business robbery at a Dry Clean facility in the neighboring area of Phumula.
All three suspects were officially arrested and detained at the Alberton police station. The SAPS Alberton spokesperson confirmed that the men face multiple charges, including the possession of unlicensed firearms, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.
