MPUMALANGA — A significant Evander drug bust has resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old foreign national on charges of narcotics trafficking. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), widely recognized as the Hawks, executed the high-profile drug dealing arrest in Evander following a targeted, intelligence-led operation on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Acting on actionable intelligence received the previous day, authorities zeroed in on a residence located on Cordoba Street where illegal narcotics activities were allegedly taking place. By 6:00 a.m. on Friday, a coordinated tactical team descended on the property. The raid was a collaborative, multi-disciplinary effort involving the Secunda Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI), the Secunda K9 Unit, the Serious Investigations and Pursuit and Recovery Unit (SIPRU), and Secunda Crime Intelligence.
Upon entering the home, officers located the suspect and immediately initiated a thorough search of the premises. Investigators uncovered a black plastic bag concealing a stash of illegal narcotics. The seizure included three packets of crystal methamphetamine, weighing roughly 31 grams, and two packets of heroin, weighing approximately 46 grams.
Law enforcement officials estimate the street value of the confiscated methamphetamine and heroin at R14,650. Alongside the narcotics, authorities impounded three cellphones and R1,850 in cash believed to be linked to illicit street sales. The combined estimated value of all seized exhibits totals roughly R20,000.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and detained at the Evander Police Station. He is scheduled to face formal charges of drug dealing before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
