Multi-Disciplinary Police Operation Leads to Firearm and Ammunition Arrests in Mayflower

MPUMALANGA — A multi-disciplinary police operation in Dundonald, Mayflower, has resulted in the arrest of two suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The coordinated raid, executed on 16 July 2026, was launched following an intelligence-driven lead regarding illegal weapons in the area.

According to official police spokespersons representing the Witbank Tactical Response Team (TRT), Standerton and Ermelo K9 Units, and Provincial Crime Intelligence, the operation was initiated after authorities received credible information about two brothers from Redhill, Dundonald, who were allegedly in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Upon arriving at the first specified address, law enforcement officers encountered a 35-year-old man in possession of a shotgun and 37 live rounds of ammunition. Because the suspect failed to produce a valid license or permit for the firearm and the ammunition, he was immediately placed under arrest.

The investigation then led officers to a second address, where a thorough search was conducted. During this search, authorities recovered two additional live rounds of ammunition alongside 16 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition. A 36-year-old man was subsequently arrested at this location for the unlawful possession of ammunition.

Both suspects are expected to appear before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court in the near future to face formal charges. Police spokespersons confirmed that investigations into the matter are continuing as authorities work to dismantle illegal firearm networks in the region.
