A man has been arrested and charged with murder following the alleged accidental shooting death of a 12-year-old girl from Krugersdorp during a hunting expedition at Franshoek Farm, near Ficksburg. The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court today.
According to police allegations, the incident occurred on the morning of Friday, 29 May 2026. The deceased’s father and the suspect were engaged in a hunting activity on the farm when the suspect allegedly accidentally discharged a firearm, fatally wounding the child.
The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. She was declared dead upon arrival at approximately 09:00.
Hospital personnel reported the incident to the South African Police Service. Investigators subsequently registered a case of murder. As part of the ongoing investigation, all firearms registered to the suspect were confiscated for forensic ballistic testing.
The suspect was taken into custody and formally charged with murder. His appearance before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court is scheduled for today.
The investigation remains active. Police have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim, in accordance with procedures concerning minors and ongoing legal proceedings.
