# Two KwaZulu-Natal Police Officers Arrested on Corruption Charges

**PIETERMARITZBURG** – Two police officers, aged 41 and 42, were arrested by members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit on Thursday, 28 May 2026, in connection with alleged corruption in Pietermaritzburg.

The charges stem from a common assault case registered at Alexandra Road Police Station on Saturday, 28 February 2026. According to the provincial police, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, the two officers accompanied the complainant in that matter to the workplace of the suspect. Following the suspect’s arrest, the officers allegedly demanded R1,000 in bail money from him.

As the suspect did not have cash on hand, arrangements were reportedly made with his employer to pay the requested amount, with an agreement that the sum would be deducted from his salary.

Upon his release by the court, the suspect inquired about the bail payment and was directed to report to the police station, where he subsequently registered a corruption case against the officers.

On Friday, 22 May 2026, one of the accused officers allegedly visited the complainant’s workplace to return the R1,000 and requested that the corruption complaint be withdrawn against both officers. The complainant declined to accept the payment.

Members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit proceeded with the arrest of both officers, who have been formally charged with corruption. They are scheduled to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 May 2026.
