Tactical Response Team Arrests Five Suspects

Members of the Klerksdorp Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested five suspects on Tuesday afternoon, 26 May 2026, for robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Extension 2, Phelandaba Drive, Jouberton.

The arrests followed an incident reported earlier that day in the Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD). According to police reports, a 41-year-old Chinese national stated that he and his friend were waiting for a property agent to show them a building. While waiting on the street, they were allegedly approached and attacked by a group of approximately six men armed with knives.

The victim drew his firearm during the confrontation, but one of the suspects allegedly grabbed the firearm from him and pushed both victims to the ground. The suspects then searched the victims and robbed them of their cellular phones, cash, and the firearm before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The victims sustained minor injuries.

A description of the suspects and the vehicle was circulated to police members. TRT members on duty later spotted the vehicle with occupants in Extension 2, Jouberton. Police intercepted the vehicle, after which the occupants fled on foot. Following a pursuit, five suspects were apprehended. Police recovered a 9mm pistol, ammunition, a cellular phone, and the vehicle allegedly used in the crime.

The five suspects, aged between 24 and 36, are expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 28 May 2026, on charges of robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Investigations are continuing.
