Suspect Remanded in Northam Murder Case After Woman’s Burned Body Found

A 41-year-old man, Samuel Molefe, appeared before the Northam Magistrate’s Court on 05 May 2026 in connection with a murder incident in Northam. He has been remanded in custody until 12 May 2026 pending further police investigation.

The court appearance follows a gruesome discovery made in the early hours of Sunday, 03 May 2026, along Sefikile Gravel Road next to the MBT Garage. Police responded to a complaint of a vehicle on fire at approximately 03:45.

Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle engulfed in flames and the body of a 37-year-old woman lying next to it. The deceased was found tied with a wire around the waist and had sustained severe burn injuries. The body was burned beyond recognition.

Molefe, believed to be the husband of the deceased, was arrested later the same day following an intensive investigation. The motive remains under investigation, but domestic violence-related issues have not been ruled out.

Police investigations are ongoing.
