Police in Lichtenburg have arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with a burglary at a business premises and possession of stolen property.
According to police, on the morning of Thursday, 16 April 2026, a business owner was informed by a security company of a break-in at his premises. Upon arrival, the owner discovered a glass door had been broken. Engine oil and jumper cables were reported missing. The combined value of the stolen property and damages is estimated at R5,000.00.
On Saturday afternoon, 18 April 2026, members of the Lichtenburg Crime Prevention Unit operationalised received information and traced the suspect in town. He was allegedly attempting to sell engine oil at the time of his arrest. Police recovered a variety of property in his possession for which he could not provide an account.
The suspect, identified as Thabo Isaac Motlhatlhedi, 20, appeared before the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 April 2026. He was remanded in custody for further investigations until 08 June 2026.
