A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment following a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) related incident in Ikhutseng, Warrenton.
The accused, Moleli Motlatsi, was sentenced on Thursday, 16 April 2026, in the Warrenton Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and contravention of the Domestic Violence Act.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 27 July 2024, at approximately 20:30. The victim, Maria Thompson (28), was in a relationship with the accused and was preparing to attend a church service. According to court proceedings, the accused instructed Thompson to change the diapers of their baby. Upon her refusal, Motlatsi followed her to the bedroom and physically assaulted her.
A family member present in the house intervened and alerted the police. Motlatsi was subsequently arrested and charged.
