The South African Police Service (SAPS) Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in the Free State has welcomed the sentencing of 23-year-old Thabo Petrus Moiloa to an effective 15 years’ imprisonment for a series of violent crimes committed against a 24-year-old woman in October 2023.
On October 9, 2023, the victim was at a local tavern when she was approached by Moiloa, who was known to her as a friend of her boyfriend. Moiloa requested that she accompany him home, but she refused his advances.
The accused then kidnapped the victim, forcing her to his residence. Upon arrival, he threatened her with a knife and physically assaulted her with a belt before raping her.
Following the incident, the victim opened a criminal case. The investigation was assigned to Sergeant Bessie Nthoba of the Mangaung FCS unit. The state presented its case in partnership with Advocate Botha from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The court convicted Moiloa on all charges and imposed the following sentences:

Kidnapping: three years’ imprisonment

Assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH): three years’ imprisonment
