Police Arrest Two Suspects in Steenberg Following Firearm Seizure

Efforts to curb gang violence and shootings in the Steenberg policing area led to the arrest of two suspects on Sunday morning for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Members of the Steenberg South African Police Service (SAPS) were conducting stop-and-search operations on Joe Marks Boulevard when they noticed two males walking in the roadway. Upon seeing the police vehicle, the suspects fled on foot.

Both men were apprehended and searched. A .357 Magnum revolver with six rounds of ammunition was found on one suspect, who had been hiding in bushes. The second suspect was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with 16 rounds of ammunition.

The suspects, aged 21 and 22, were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They are scheduled to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
