A 35-year-old man is in custody following the swift recovery of a vehicle allegedly stolen from Cape Town, after police acted on intelligence regarding a suspicious vehicle on the N1 highway.
Members of the Richmond South African Police Service (SAPS) A-Shift responded to information received about a possible stolen vehicle that had been abandoned on the N1 in the direction of Three Sisters. The investigation led officers to a mechanic’s workshop in Richmond on Monday, 16 February 2026.
Upon further investigation, police linked the vehicle to a theft that occurred at a car wash in Cape Town on Sunday, 15 February 2026. The suspect was subsequently traced and apprehended at the workshop.
The man has been charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. He is expected to appear in the Richmond Magistrate’s Court soon.
