Body Found in Nandoni Dam Prompts Police Inquest

Police in the Vhembe District have opened an inquest docket following the recovery of a decomposed male body from the Nandoni Dam in Manini village on Friday.

According to a police statement, the authorities received a complaint at approximately 10:20 on Friday, 13 February 2026, regarding a human body seen floating in the water. Upon arrival at the scene, officers confirmed the presence of the corpse.

Members of the Police Search and Rescue Team, alongside the K9 Unit, were summoned to the location. The team successfully conducted an operation to retrieve the body from the water.

The deceased is described as an unidentified male. The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, which has hindered immediate visual identification.

At this stage of the investigation, authorities state they cannot confirm whether the deceased is the foreign national man who was swept away by the Dzindi River at the Tswinga Bridge on Saturday, 17 January 2026. The victim from that incident was reportedly the driver of a Toyota bakkie. While the family of the missing man reportedly believes the recovered body is their relative, police are proceeding with forensic DNA processes to establish a definitive identification.
