Two Employees Appear in Court on Corruption Charges

Two Eskom safety representatives briefly appeared in the Emalahleni Regional Court on Friday following an investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit based in Middelburg.

Bongane Masina (43) and Rahab Pulane (45) face allegations of corruption related to an incident at the Majuba Power Station. According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the pair allegedly solicited bribes from a suspended trucking company.

The investigation stems from an incident in September 2024 involving IZICWE Trucking Company. A truck en route to Majuba Power Station from a mine suffered a tyre blowout. While the driver was waiting at the scene, the stationary truck was struck from behind by another vehicle also heading to the power station.

Subsequently, Eskom suspended the trucking company’s operations pending an internal investigation.

It is alleged that Masina and Pulane exploited the situation by approaching the owner of the trucking company. They reportedly requested a payment of R30,000, claiming they could negotiate for the company to be reinstated. The amount was deposited into the accounts of the two Eskom employees.

When the matter was not resolved, the duo allegedly demanded an additional R30,000 gratification. The trucking company owner then reported the matter to the authorities.

The Hawks’ investigation traced the movement of funds, linking both Masina and Pulane to the transaction.

On Thursday, 08 February 2026, the two were served with notices to appear in court. They made their first brief appearance on Friday, 13 February 2026. The case was postponed to 26 April 2026 for further investigation.
