Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Rape

The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, has welcomed the 15-year direct imprisonment sentence imposed on a 28-year-old man for rape. The Mthatha Regional Court handed down the sentence on Tuesday, 10 February 2026.

The court found the accused, a resident of Waterfall Park in Mthatha, guilty of raping a 30-year-old woman on 25 May 2025.

According to police reports, the victim was taken home by friends following a social outing, as she was intoxicated. The following morning at approximately 08:00, the accused entered the residence and raped her.

A case was opened, leading to the suspect’s arrest on 27 May 2025. The Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Mayixhale, successfully opposed bail, resulting in the accused remaining in custody for the duration of the trial.
