18-Year Sentence for Rapist of Eight-Year-Old Boy

The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, has welcomed the sentencing of 36-year-old Vuyo Tyeni to 18 years in prison for the rape of an eight-year-old boy.

The Mthatha Regional Court handed down the sentence on Thursday, 12 February 2026.

The court heard that the incident occurred in April 2024 at the Phase 2 locality in Bhongweni, Mthatha. During the assault, the perpetrator covered the victim’s eyes and mouth with cellotape. The young victim endured pain and suffering following the incident until he eventually disclosed the ordeal.

A rape case was subsequently opened, leading to the arrest of the suspect on 30 May 2024.
