Man Arrested for Murder After Body of Girlfriend Found in Shallow Grave

A 34-year-old farm worker has been arrested for murder after allegedly leading police to the shallow grave of his 27-year-old girlfriend on a Kloofeind farm, following an investigation that included crime intelligence and reports of a visit to a sangoma.

The discovery was made on Monday, 9 February 2026, at a farm homestead along the N8 National Road between Bloemfontein and Petrusburg. Police crime scene experts began arriving at the location from 10:00.

According to authorities, the suspect pointed out the grave site. The decomposed remains of the victim, who was his girlfriend, were subsequently exhumed. A case of murder and defeating the ends of justice has been opened at the Parkweg Police Station.

The suspect had initially reported the victim missing on Saturday, 17 January 2026. A formal missing person file was registered on Friday, 30 January 2026. At that time, the suspect provided a false statement to police at the Parkweg Police Station, claiming the deceased had left the farm to visit her aunt in Pieter Swarts, Bloemspruit.

The investigation, which included meticulous crime intelligence gathering and information regarding an alleged visit by the suspect to a sangoma, led to the breakthrough.

The 34-year-old suspect was immediately placed under arrest. He is scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.
