Court Sentences Man to 15 Years for 2023 Murder

The Namakwa District Management has welcomed a 15-year prison sentence handed down by the Port Nolloth Regional Court on Friday, 06 February 2026.

Khwezilomso Godfrey Gebuza, 31, was convicted for the murder of a 20-year-old man in Port Nolloth three years prior. The court heard that Gebuza fatally stabbed the victim on Motlomelo Street in the Sizamele area during the early hours of 19 February 2023, at approximately 00:45.

Gebuza was first arraigned on the murder charge on 27 February 2023. The conclusion of the trial last week resulted in his conviction and the subsequent 15-year imprisonment term.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court declared Gebuza unfit to possess a firearm.

The prosecution highlighted the collaborative effort behind the successful conviction. The case was investigated by Detective Constable Denver Van Den Heever and prosecuted by Mr. Basil Kock from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Local authorities cited the cooperation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the NPA as a clear indication that justice will be served for victims of crime.
