Police have opened a double murder investigation following the discovery of two bodies with multiple gunshot wounds in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred on 10 February 2026 at approximately 00:29. Police were alerted to a shooting near the Masilo Old Cemetery in Lusaka Park, Theunissen.
Upon arrival, officers found a stationary white Ashok Leyland Phoenix vehicle in the middle of the road. Lying on the road beside it was an African male, estimated to be in his mid-30s. He was dressed in black trousers, a grey T-shirt, and a grey-and-black tracksuit jacket. The victim had sustained two visible gunshot wounds to the face.
Inside the vehicle, police discovered a second victim, an unknown African female also estimated to be in her mid-30s. She was wearing green tracksuit pants and a peach long-sleeved sweater, and was wrapped in a blue polar fleece blanket. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, leg, and arm.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene, where both victims were declared deceased.
Theunissen SAPS has officially registered two counts of murder. Due to the serious and violent nature of the crime, the investigation has been taken over by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime, Murder and Robbery Unit.
The motive for the killings is currently unknown. Police have stated that the identities of the deceased have not yet been formally established.
