Police Arrest Five in Connection with Mangaung Double Homicide

Integrated police operations led to the rapid arrest of five suspects on Sunday following the brutal murder of two unidentified women in Namibia Square.

The discovery was made by patrolling officers at approximately 01:50 on Sunday, 08 February 2026. They found the bodies of two women lying in a pool of blood on a street in Namibia Square. Both victims had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the back of their heads and were declared deceased at the scene.

An immediate, intelligence-led investigation was launched. Acting on community-supplied information regarding the suspects’ whereabouts, members of the Provincial Tracking and Tracing Team, together with the Parkweg Tactical Response Team (TRT), intercepted a white Toyota Quantum with four occupants at around 13:30.

Notably, the vehicle was tactically stopped on the same street where the murders had occurred hours earlier.

A search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of one unlicensed 9mm pistol loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. A fifth suspect was also apprehended. All five arrested individuals, aged between 31 and 40, are foreign nationals.

The suspects face multiple charges including two counts of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and contravention of the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish a motive for the killings and to identify the two victims.

Authorities have also confirmed that investigations continue into a separate, third murder that occurred on Saturday in Meadows Road.
