A 43-year-old man is under police guard in a local hospital after being arrested for the murder of a 76-year-old woman at Rwanda Village in the Letsitele policing area, Mopani District. The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, 08 February 2026.
Police were alerted to the scene, where they found the elderly victim lying on the ground with a stab wound to her back. Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced her deceased.
Preliminary information from community members indicates that the suspect, alleged to be the boyfriend of the deceased, stabbed the woman with a knife following a brief argument. He then fled the scene on foot.
Community members later traced the suspect to his residence and brought him back to the crime scene, where he was assaulted. Police intervened, rescuing the suspect from the crowd.
Officers recovered a knife believed to be the murder weapon.
The arrested suspect is receiving medical treatment for injuries allegedly sustained during his apprehension by community members. Police investigations into the murder are ongoing.
