A coordinated police operation in Phiritona on Saturday resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of an unlicensed firearm, a large quantity of drugs, and suspected stolen property.
Acting on intelligence, members of the Provincial Anti-Hijacking Task Team proceeded to a residence in the Marantha section of Phiritona at approximately 16:00 on February 7, 2026. The operation targeted a male suspect allegedly involved in drug sales from the property.
Police met with resistance upon arrival, as the occupants refused to grant entry. Tactical measures were subsequently employed to gain access to the premises.
A search of the property led to the discovery of a .38 Special Taurus Revolver concealed inside a wardrobe drawer. Officers also seized eight cellphones believed to be stolen and a substantial quantity of crystal meth. The estimated street value of the confiscated narcotics is R100,000.
A 35-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were arrested at the scene. They have been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property, and dealing in drugs.
The suspects are due to appear before the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
