The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga has opened an investigation into a violent carjacking that occurred in Mandela Village on Friday evening, 06 February 2026.
The incident was reported to have taken place at approximately 21:30 at the victim’s residence. According to police reports, the complainant, driving a white Toyota Quantum with Mpumalanga registration, had stopped at his gate to open it. Upon returning to the vehicle, he was confronted by two unknown male suspects.
One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. The armed individual ordered the victim back into the vehicle. The second suspect then forced the complainant to lie down inside and stood on top of him while pointing the firearm at him.
The suspects drove the vehicle to an undisclosed location where a third male suspect joined them. After driving around for a period, the victim was taken to a nearby graveyard. There, he was searched and robbed of a Samsung Galaxy A04 cellphone and R200 in cash.
The suspects instructed him not to look back as they fled the scene with his vehicle. The victim described the perpetrators as three unknown males who were speaking different languages.
The total estimated value of the stolen property is R501,500. This comprises the Toyota Quantum, valued at approximately R500,000, and the cellphone, valued at around R1,500.
No arrests have been made at this stage. Police confirm that investigations into the case are ongoing.
