A 27-year-old man, identified as a member of a local gang, is in custody following a police raid that uncovered an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and a significant quantity of drugs.
Acting on received intelligence, members of the Grassy Park SAPS conducted an operation at a premises in Phumlani Village on Thursday, 05 February 2026, at approximately 06:30. Upon arrival, officers knocked and heard movement inside before the suspect opened the door.
When questioned, the suspect confirmed the presence of illegal substances and directed officers to a suitcase containing eight bags of mandrax tablets. A subsequent search of the property yielded further evidence, including:

The suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition without a license, and dealing in drugs (alternatively possession of mandrax). He was detained at Grassy Park SAPS and is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 February 2026.
