Members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) seized a steel box containing various calibre firearms, ammunition, and explosives in Ravensmead over the weekend, leading to the arrest of a 51-year-old man.
According to police reports, the operation took place in the early hours of Saturday, 28 February 2026, at approximately 02:45. The breakthrough followed a tip-off regarding a suspect, reportedly affiliated with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), who was allegedly storing firearms at his residence in Delphi Street, Eureka Estate.
Upon arrival at the premises, officers found the house empty. A subsequent search of the property led to a discovery in one of the rooms, where a member noticed concrete with plastic protruding from beneath a carpet.
Using a sledgehammer, the team broke open the concrete and unearthed a steel box buried in the ground. The container was found to hold a cache of illegal items, including multiple firearms of different calibres, ammunition, and explosives.
A 51-year-old male was arrested in connection with the discovery. The seized items have been secured for further investigation.
