Murder Suspect Apprehended After Teacher’s Killing in Mutale

A 29-year-old male suspect was apprehended on Thursday, 29 January 2026, in connection with a murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The charges relate to an incident on Saturday, 11 October 2025, in the Mutale policing area. A 26-year-old woman and her 69-year-old aunt were returning from an all-night prayer crusade at Thengwe, Matshetshete village.

While boarding a Quantum minibus, an unknown man shot the 26-year-old in the forehead. He then fired at her aunt, who was seated inside. The 55-year-old driver drove to the Mutale police station.

Upon arrival, the driver discovered he had been shot in the left leg and that his cellphone was broken.

The 26-year-old victim died. The suspect was arrested after an extended search.
