Police Arrest Man with Stolen Copper Wire

Police have arrested a 53-year-old suspect from Mamafubedu for possession of suspected stolen copper wire.

The arrest took place on the R57 between Petrus Steyn and Reitz during a joint roadblock by the SAPS and Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement. Officers stopped a white Kia sedan and searched it.

A passenger was found with a black backpack containing over 31 kilograms of copper wire. Police allege the wire was stolen from a nearby farm.

Investigations indicate the suspect has been arrested for similar offences before.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property is being investigated. The suspect will appear in the Reitz Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 February 2026.
