The South African Police Service (SAPS) has extradited a 41-year-old man from Lesotho in connection with the murder of his 44-year-old girlfriend from Manyatseng, near Ladybrand.
The extradition operation was led by SAPS Pretoria Interpol, supported by Free State SAPS and conducted with Lesotho authorities. The handover occurred at the Maseru Bridge Port of Entry.
Police allege the murder happened in November 2024. The suspect reportedly fled to Lesotho with the deceased’s vehicle, which he then set alight. He also allegedly attempted suicide by drinking poison, leading to his hospitalization and subsequent arrest in Lesotho.
The suspect has been formally charged with murder and is scheduled to appear in the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 January 2026.
