A 36-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, 24 January 2026, for alleged drunken driving and multiple other charges following a violent confrontation with traffic officials.
At approximately 06:30, officials on patrol in Leask Street observed a black sedan driving against oncoming traffic. A female officer stopped the vehicle and found the driver appearing to be under the influence of alcohol.
Upon being informed of his arrest, the suspect became aggressive and attacked the female officer. Male officers intervened, and resistance escalated until SAPS were called to restrain him. The female officer sustained an injury to her left hand.
While en route to a health facility for a blood sample, the suspect broke a window of the traffic vehicle. He was taken to Stilfontein Health Centre, where resistance continued. A blood sample was ultimately obtained, and he was taken to SAPS Stilfontein.
The suspect faces charges of drunken driving, resisting arrest, assault of a traffic official, and malicious damage to property. He is detained and will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 January 2026.
