South African Police Service (SAPS) members from Phokeng arrested a 39-year-old man on Thursday, 22 January 2026, for possession of suspected stolen goats.
The arrest occurred at approximately 00:30 during a routine crime prevention patrol on the R556 road. Officers stopped a suspicious Ford Ranger bakkie at the Sun City – Luka four-way stop.
A search of the vehicle revealed 26 goats loaded at the back. The driver, the sole occupant, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the livestock’s ownership or origin.
The goats were found without identification marks. Their rightful ownership is still being determined.
The suspect is charged with possession of suspected stolen property and will appear before the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court in Tlhabane on Monday, 26 January 2026.
