Members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 43-year-old male suspect on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, following the discovery of drugs, cash, and suspected stolen cellphones at his business premises in the Welkom Central Business District.
The operation was initiated after police received and acted upon information regarding alleged drug dealing at the location. Upon arrival, officers conducted a search of the identified business.
The search yielded a significant quantity of narcotics and other items. Confiscated evidence includes four sachets of crystal meth, 56 sachets of CAT (methcathinone), and 101 full Mandrax tablets. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is R30,000. Police also recovered 11 cellphones, suspected to be stolen, and an undisclosed amount of cash. All items were booked in as evidence.
The suspect faces charges of dealing in drugs, possession of drugs, and possession of suspected stolen property. He is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
