A 34-year-old suspect, Gift Nyathi, appeared before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 January 2026, on charges of attempted rape and robbery.
Nyathi was arrested on Sunday, 18 January 2026, in Musina Town. The arrest was the result of an intelligence-led operation involving Musina Crime Intelligence, the Musina Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), DRS Security, and Top Freight Security.
The charges stem from an incident reported on Christmas Day, 25 December 2025. According to police, a 26-year-old woman was confronted and threatened with a knife at approximately 05:00 in the Musina Phase 09 area. The suspect allegedly attempted to rape the complainant before robbing her of personal belongings.
The court has remanded Nyathi in custody. He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, to allow for profiling and further police investigations.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
