direct and fatual Parolee Arrested for Smuggling Contraband into Prison

A 31-year-old parolee was arrested at the Standerton Correctional Centre on Sunday, 18 January 2026.

The arrest occurred after correctional officials discovered a plastic bag containing dagga and a cellphone hidden inside a packet of instant porridge. The suspect had brought the porridge, among other food items, while visiting an incarcerated friend.

He was immediately arrested and charged with possession of drugs and defeating the ends of justice.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 19 January 2026.
