The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has confirmed the arrest of five suspects for hijacking, kidnapping, and murder.
Two women, reported missing on 31 December 2025, were found dead in an open veld at a plot in Poortjie, near Orange Farms, on 08 January 2026. The case was reclassified to hijacking and kidnapping after a ransom demand was made to one victim’s mother.
On 13 January 2026, police arrested four suspects in Evaton and a fifth in Germiston. An unlicensed firearm was recovered. The victims’ vehicle was later found abandoned at a car wash in Brits, fitted with false number plates but bearing the correct licence disc.
The firearm will undergo ballistic testing. All five suspects are scheduled to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on 15 January 2026.
